IBWZ – Kylie Pringle

Meet Kylie Pringle

Interior Decorator and founder of Aboutkp.

We stepped inside Kylie’s serene bedroom space to chat bespoke design, early side hustles and the importance of creating interiors that feel calm, considered and made to last. From a strong commitment to local makers to beachside resets and life as a mum of two, the conversation centres on thoughtful details and spaces that deeply resonate.

Tell us how Aboutkp came to life; what led you into the world of interiors and styling?
Without sounding cliche, I always knew I wanted to work in interiors. I was that kid who rearranged her room weekly. After many years working in the visual merchandising world I was ready to take the leap for myself. I undertook some further study and my side hustle became my business.

Where do you turn when you're in need of a creative reset or fresh inspiration?
I head down the beach for a reset. It’s my happy place where everything just seems so much clearer. Sometimes for me it’s a change of scenery that does the most.

Custom pieces can transform a space; do you have a go to bespoke item you love specifying for your projects?
I like to include lots of custom pieces for my clients. Going custom means the project has a point of difference and doesn’t end up cookie cutter. I love to specify beds as the heroes in master bedrooms especially where the choice of bespoke fabric and detailing can transform a simple design into something really special.

What was it about the Soho bedhead that caught your eye for this project?
I’ve always loved the Soho. The classic design is simple and timeless. It’s also such a good choice when space allows because as it extends across the wall it unifies the bed, beside tables and lamps as one really grounding the space.

Balancing projects, clients, and family is no easy task - how do you keep it all flowing?
It’s definitely a juggling act! My children are still really little so they take priority right now. It means I only take on a small number of projects at a time, allowing me to give them the focus they deserve. It’s a formula that’s working well at the moment but I’m sure it will evolve as I move into my school mum era!

You regularly source local makers, why is this important to you?
The locally made pieces are always my favourite part of my projects. I think it goes back to adding a bespoke feel, that point of difference. I also try to curate my projects in a way that lasts for my clients and locally made generally means a closer attention to detail resulting in superior quality. The spaces I create can then actually be lived in and loved as opposed to just aesthetically pleasing.

What small joys or rituals keep you feeling grounded in the sometimes manic moments in life?
Coffee! Getting my coffee from a little cafe near home is a daily must. We also make a big deal of having dinner as a family most nights. It can be hectic to get there with two little kids but is so worthwhile in the end

Do you have a wind-down routine or night-time ritual that helps you achieve a sense of Zenn?
Getting that little window of time to myself at the end of the day is precious! I usually end up with a hot cup of something, in comfy pyjamas, watching a show.

And finally, what’s top of your wish list right now - something you're eyeing for yourself or your home?
A new sofa. At some point we’ll be out of the trenches with small kids and the accidents that come with that time! I love the Jardan Nina and can see that sitting perfectly in my living room in a textured, chocolate or biscuity coloured fabric.
